Back stiffness after sitting for a while?

Tired of back stiffness after sitting? 😞

Two simple movements can help to relieve it‼️

Movement helps to improve blood flow, allows the discs to become lubricated and hydrated, and helps to reduce muscle tightness ✅

They key is finding movements that don’t make your pain worse ☝🏽

If these movements do not feel good to you, it’s OKAY! There are other many movements that can be helpful too- these are just two of my favorites 👀

1️⃣ Arching and rounding which is also known as a cat-cow can be done in a seated position taking your spine through a larger range of motion. This can help to hydrate the discs and allow the muscles to contract and relax. I like to add in the arms to exaggerate the mobility but they aren’t necessary

5-10 repetitions may be a good place to start for most

2️⃣ Diagonal reaches include reaching out in front of you at about a 45 degree angle, no twisting involved. Your chest should stay facing forward (⚠️). This will help to open up your upper and middle back, relying less on your lower back.

5-10 repetitions may be a good place for most to start.

Try 1 or 2 sets before standing up to unlock more mobility and reduce stiffness 🙌🏼

Doing so can make walking easier along with stair climbing and even getting up from a chair or couch ☝🏽

How do these feel for you??

  3. Two or three times a day is necessary and if possible do a few 10 minute gentle periods during the day on a static bike to loosen up those hips. Alternatively, take a 10 minute walk every now and then. I'm just going through the same issue.

  4. Hi but why does this happen? I mean I wake up in the morning with a stiff lower back (just in the middle above the tailbone ). Its coupled with fatigue and I feel like going back to sleep. Nothing seems to help.

  5. Back stiffness happens most when you sit on a sofa or chair cushion. Try a hard chair that is low enough to stretch your legs out with your feet on the floor and alternate each leg out and shifts your lower back to give relief. My mom had a bulging disk and was told to avoid cushions after back surgery.
