Facet arthrosis is a degenerative spinal condition like arthritis in which bony enlargements, called osteophytes or bone spurs, grow and enlarge the facet joints. These exercises are important to prevent loss of motion and dysfunction.

  1. Yes, that is exactly what I was told few days ago after years of excruciating pain managed with pain killers ineffective to address the pain and further causing other health issues. This kind of pain is unbearable. My complete life is affected with this horrible disease.

  2. Being a person who has suffered from facet joint trauma precipitated by an auto accident, this is good info. HOWEVER, I WILL ALSO CAUTION ANYONE EXPERIENCING SPINAL PAIN YO FIRST AND FOREMOST, TO CONSIDER CONSULTING WITH A NEUROSURGEON OR AN ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON TO ASSESS RISK OF SERIOUS IMMINENT SPINAL CORD INJURY!!! IF THERE IS SEVERE INSTABILITY, THE WRONG MOVEMENT OR MOTION, CAN CAUSE PERMANENT LIFE LONG INJURY!

  3. Goodnight Dr Mandell. I've been suffering from back pain due to the type of work I do. I do a lot of heavy lifting. I ended up doing an MRI and it showed that I have herniated discs and a non cancerous tumor. My uncle who is a Orthopedic Specialist read the report and viewed the images said that I'm ok but I need to do back exercises. I hear you speaking about facet joint arthrosis being wrongly diagnosed as herniated discs and I'm wondering if that's what happened to me. My uncle lives far away from me in another country and I'm hoping that you can shed some light on my condition. Is there anyway possible that you could take a look at my images and help me figure out what to do. I'm 38 years old and I'm trying to lose weight. I feel like an old man. My lower back and upper neck hurt. Please let me know if there is anything you can do to assist me with my images. I have them in my email. Thank you Dr Mandell. I love watching your videos.

  6. Thank you.
I'm sharing this with my girlfriend who may have this and not sciatica as a doctor advised from years of cleaning work. She awaits a very slow waiting time for assessment with a Uk NHS clinic for treatment. She has been off of work for 3 months.

  7. Hi ,I have vertebral plana at l5 and bone loss throughout my spine,I get pain in the low back, hips and legs.I also suffer from an incisional hernia, epigastric hernia and hiatial hernia as well as osteoporosis what would you advise.

  9. Dr. Mandel, I was recently diagnosed with severe arthritis in both left and right sides of my lower back, L4, L5. I'm only 59. Next week I'm scheduled for facet injections. Is there anything to worry about, side affects? I'm also going to see an orthopedist as well. I had been going to the chiropractor for months and paying out of pocket. The arthritis is so severe that I now walk with a pronounced limp. Do you have any suggestions, I'd like to take care of this as naturally as possible so I've been taking Morena, curcumin., and turmeric.

  10. This video was so helpful! The stretch is amazing and I will need to remember to do this daily, possibly a few times per day. MRI shows I have lumbar facet joint arthropathy, biforaminal stenosis, a benign spinal tumor, displaced disks, and levorotoscoliosis. I previously was going to physical therapy, and it was bringing movement and some pain relief in the moment, but no long term improvements in measurements were seen on evaluations (even though I was also doing the home exercises as instructed) so the insurance company cut me off. I have been trying to stay mobile and active, but finding just the right exercises and stretches is tricky with so many diagnoses. On top of the back issues, I also have bursitis in my right hip, and arthritis in both of my feet. I have gained about 15 pounds since things started to go downhill. Most of the exercise videos I've came across for back issues have a lot of walking in place in them, which I attempted but can't stick with because of the hip that starts to get irritated. This video was just what I needed today.

  11. I'm experiencing a severe pain i cannot move alone, can't get up,can't reach my toes can't take a bath everything because my back aches, the doctor told me to take methylprednisolone and ibuprufen, the pain gone a little for the 2nd day of taking medicines but i feel itchiness all over my body is this side effect of the medicine?

  12. I forgot to mention that in accordance to what you say here, I have it in the Neck as well. Suffering from Radioculopathy with tingling in both arms , but worse in the left arm and shoulder.

  13. HI Doc, stumbled on this video as I have followed your Youtube channel for over 1.5 years now. I am seeking relief from my many spinal issues – one of which is Facet Joint Syndrome. I also have Many spinal issues including DDD, Dextro-scoliosis, knee & hip Arthritis. SI joints are a "itis" as well. Scroilitisis. RA was ruled out by doctors. But the chronic pain and stiffness from the back issues have fostered Peripheral nerve damage which has contributed to the chronic fatigue and now Fibromyalgia generalized pain and tenderness everywhere. Your contributions of supplements to try, physical exercises do help to tolerate. Just wish you had a real Magic Pill in your Bag to make this go AWAY. THX

  14. Thank you, Sir. I am suffering from ankylosing spondylitis. And this condition arises to me. Most of the time my facet joint locked when I try to do back extension.

    What should I do? TIA.

  15. I am 73 years old, I have severe pain in my lower back upon standing or walking. I had a an MRI of my lower back that shows extensive degenerative joint disease. The physical therapy that I am getting has exacerbated the pain. What can I do?

  16. Does/can a facetjoint gets permanently damaged by stretching beyond recovery the tendon or ligament that should hold or keep it at place? I mean, once it slips, is that permanent or often permanent damage? honest answer would be appreciated as I am a big boy that can handle the truth as this is much more usable, you see, eventhough it may be said to be permanent, focus and strengthening muscles to keep it in place can do a lot and is often dependable on the persons engagement and understanding of how to mobilise and use the human body.
