  2. 9 months ago, I had a microdiscectomy on my L5 disc and S1 nerve root. Before the surgery, I suffered from severe pain, numbness, and tingling all the way down my left leg and foot for months. When I woke up from the anaesthetic, I was able to walk around the ward completely pain-free. Right now, I only have minor pain at the incision site. Recovery will be tough in the coming months, but compared to before surgery, the difference is incredible – I couldn’t sit, walk, sleep, or even lie down without excruciating pain. I’ve read many stories about this operation, both positive and negative, and I truly believe the outcome depends entirely on the individual. For me, it has absolutely been worth it so far. The truth is, once you have a back injury, you’ll always have a back injury – but you can learn to manage it. Teach your kids to treat their spine like glass. In the end, whether this surgery is worth it or not is completely down to the person.

  3. I was diagnosed with sciatica 5 years ago. Had therapy acupuncture and medication nothing worked. Had MRI which showed I was actually suffering from spinal stenosis and bone spurs. Afraid surgery is my only option now. Good luck to all suffering from this horrible painful condition.
