Understanding Facet Joint Pain and How You Can You Fix It?

If you’ve had neck or back pain that you could put a finger on; or sharp pain when moving, it may be due to facet joints of your spine. It’s easy to think of your facet joints like the knuckles of your spine. They are small joints have a capsule and cartilage pad that glide and slide which allows your spine to move.

As you go through life and your spinal discs go through the aging process; your facet joints end up taking on extra load. Unfortunately, this excess stress and pressure can wear down your facet joints. The result is the beginning of the degenerative process which can end up causing adhesions, restriction motion, bone spurs, and pain.

Keep in mind:

– The facet joints of your spine slide and glide as you move
– Restrictions or adhesions in the facets can occur with age and injury
– Chiropractic adjustments help the facets joints move freely and decrease painful restrictions

The facet joints of your spine love to move. Movement helps them stay healthy and may even slow down the degenerative process. Chiropractic adjustments have been shown to reduce adhesions of the facet joints allowing you to move more freely with less pain. We believe that when you are moving better, you are feeling better- and we’re proud to be a part of the healthcare team that helps you stay active!

  1. Hey Dr! Hope u read this by some chance haha. I’m an 18 year old student at MSU and in my senior year of highschool in End of January I had bad squat form where my core would give out and I would bend forward and would readjust my back half way up/towards the end. In doing so I slammed my joints together and damaged the joints in the middle of my spine. I’ve seen 2 pt experts and the 2nd one came up with my first explanation how I could have damaged my facet joints and I’m really worried I damaged the fluid and it’s irreversible. I’m trying to do daily walking but I’m sitting alot in my classes even tho I take breaks to walk outside here and there in between class I’m afraid the sitting for even 30-40 minutes at a time is worsening my conditions. Any idea of what I could do?
