Managing Intractable Back Pain – Dr. Stefano Sinicropi, M.D.

There’s no perfect playbook for managing intractable back pain. In fact, oftentimes the typical playbook needs to be thrown out, because you’ve already tried some standard treatments with little to no success. Here’s how we work to uncover the best path forward for patients with intractable back pain:

  • Comprehensive Diagnosis – For starters, it’s helpful to get a second opinion or have a more comprehensive health assessment performed by a physician. Perhaps they didn’t take any diagnostic images at your first consultation, or they want to put you through a more detailed physical examination. A more thorough consultation can ensure that you and your care team really understand what you’re up against. Oftentimes we learn a little more about your issue during these visits, and this allows us to tweak your treatment program to give it a better chance of being successful.
  • Mental Health Matters – Finally, we talk with all of our patients about the importance of maintaining their mental health. Back pain can be extremely frustrating, especially in a chronic or intractable form, but if the issue also negatively impacts your mental health, it can make effective treatment that much harder to achieve. We’ll talk about ways to stay in a positive head space and can direct you towards professional resources if you ever feel overwhelmed or depressed because of your back pain. Mental and physical health are largely intertwined, and improving your mental health can make it easier to overcome a physical issue like back pain.

Don’t let intractable pain win. You have options, and our team is here to help you find the right path forward. For more information, reach out to Dr. Sinicropi and the team at The Midwest Spine & Brain Institute today at (651) 430-3800.
