Has Osteoarthritis of the hands affected your quality of life?
I cannot use my hands like I once could. Some days pain worsens, making it difficult to enjoy or even execute everyday activities.
It is always a good idea to warm up your hands by wiggling your fingers and moving your hands in circles a couple of minutes before your workout.
Below are a few exercises I include in my workout routine, sometimes twice daily, to ease hand pain and stiffness. They might be easy for many, but I struggle due to pain and discomfort.
7 times per week
10 reps per hand
1-3 sets
60 seconds rest between sets
Thumb Stretch
Start with your hand straight, and your fingers close together.
Next, bend your thumb across your palm, touching the base of your small finger or as far as possible.
Hold for 3 seconds.
Slowly return to your starting position, repeat, and switch hands.
Knuckle Bend
Start with your hand straight, and your fingers close together.
Bend your fingers slowly toward the top of your palm.
Hold for 3 seconds.
Slowly return to your starting position, repeat, and switch hands.
Fist Stretch
Start with your hand straight, and your fingers close together.
Next, bend your fingers slowly into a fist, wrapping your thumb around the outside of your fingers.
Hold for 3 seconds.
Slowly return to your starting position, repeat, and switch hands.
Thumb C Stabilization
Start with your hand straight, and your fingers close together.
Next, bend your fingers slowly into a C shape.
Hold for 3 seconds.
Slowly return to your starting position, repeat, and switch hands.
Fingertip Touch
Start with your hand straight, and your fingers close together.
Next, touch your thumb to each finger, starting from your index finger.
Try to keep your other fingers straight as much as possible.
Slowly return to your starting position, repeat, and switch hands.
