When “Alex” first came to me for virtual coaching, they were terrified. They had completely lost sensation in their left foot. It was total numbness—a complete blackout of the nerve signal.
Alex assumed the worst, believing surgery was the only option. But once we mapped out the anatomy of the sciatic nerve, the fear started to dissipate.
Moving Up the Spectrum We implemented a targeted movement strategy to decompress the L4-S3 nerve roots. Over the next few weeks, Alex’s symptoms began to change.
- First, the numbness shifted to tingling, a sign the nerve was waking up and circulation was returning.
- Then, the pain became a sharp, localized ache in the upper thigh.
Alex panicked, thinking they were regressing. I explained the concept of centralization. Like squeezing a tube of toothpaste from the bottom up, the pain was leaving the foot and retreating toward the spine. The area of pain was shrinking.
By tracking the flavor of the pain in a daily journal, Alex realized that the transition from a numb foot to a tight, heavy hamstring wasn’t a setback—it was proof of profound healing. Today, Alex is moving freely, completely out of the “blackout” zone.
