One of the big research areas in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is focused on precision medicine. This area of research looks at whether doctors can predict which medication a specific patient will respond to, so that they can quickly get their pain under control and curb disease progression.
Now, research teams, including those at HSS, are looking to determine if the types of cells present in joint tissue can predict which medication will work for a patient. Melanie Smith, MD, rheumatologist and Director of the Inflammatory Arthritis Center, shares how analyzing joint tissue at the cellular level may help doctors match patients with the most effective medications faster.
