About the Talk:
In this insightful lecture, Mr. George Ampat, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Aintree University Hospital, explains the causes, diagnosis, and management of lower back pain — one of the world’s leading causes of disability.
He discusses why exercise and strengthening the back are often more effective than surgery, the science behind natural healing of disc prolapse, and the role of core muscles like the multifidus in maintaining spinal stability.
Mr. Ampat also covers important topics such as:
Understanding MRI scans of spinal discs
How inflammation and immune cells help repair disc prolapse
The “jam donut and ants” analogy for disc healing
Differentiating mechanical vs. red-flag back pain
The importance of proper examination and muscle endurance
The role of psychological and social factors in chronic pain

Thanks Mr Ampat I’m on the road to recovery thanks to you. The key takeaway for me would be to understand the disc prolapse takes time to heal and the patient must respect the healing process and not rush back to physical or strenuous activity too soon like in my case. Core exercises build not just muscle but confidence too. See you soon
