Case Study: How “Taylor” Used the Movement Detective Method to End Sciatica

When “Taylor” booked a virtual strategy call, they were incredibly frustrated. Taylor was doing physical therapy exercises every single morning, but their sciatica was only getting worse.

During our assessment, we audited Taylor’s daily symptoms. Taylor noted that walking and standing felt amazing, but sitting at a desk sent shooting pain down their leg.

The Mistake: Fueling the Fire I asked Taylor to show me their morning exercise routine. They were diligently pulling their knees to their chest and doing deep forward folds.

Taylor was an archetypal “Stander” with an Extension Bias. Their body craved an arched, extended spine. Because they were doing flexion-based stretches every morning, they were accidentally fueling their own irritation.

The Result: Moving in the Right Direction We immediately threw out the forward-bending stretches. We replaced them with extension movements like cobras and backbends, and added a lumbar roll to their office chair to support their directional preference.

By simply aligning their exercise routine with their body’s biological bias, Taylor’s nerve pain subsided within a matter of days.
