Facet joints are little joints situated through out the spinal column. They can be a common source of back pain. A facet joint injection can be helpful in diagnosing and alleviating back pain associated with facet joints.
The procedure is done under local anaesthetic. The doctor will initially numb the skin and deeper tissues with a numbing medicine. He will then use a special x-ray machine called a fluoroscope to guide the needle accurately in to the facet joint. A mixture of local anaesthetic and steroid is injected slowly in to the joint.
The local anaesthetic can provide immediate pain relief but the steroid can take a few days to work. Pain relief from facet joint injections can last several months though this may not always be the case.

I’m having one today and reading the comments have put me at ease!
I had it done yesterday and it wasnt that bad. Had L3-L4,L4-L5 and L5S1 facet joint injections. Feeling pretty good. Right after the procedure i drank a hot black coffee to stave off anesthesia effects. Went for a 3 mile walk later in the evening. Havent felt this good in years. I will be getting Si Fusion this upcoming year. Going thru the hoops right now. Si injection i had about month and a half ago completely took my pain away for like 3 days.
Had my lower back injected today. My dr had the touch of an angel. I felt very little. They put this cold fluid to clean the area, thet numbed my back. They used a scope to find the nerve, you can see on a tv. It was really quick less than 5 minutes. I need to get one on my neck next but am going to try acupuncture.
Are you all put under sleep? I was.
If my injections go the same as my hip infection went, I’m fkd 😫😬😣 That stupid hip joint (S I Joint) shot didn’t do jack, except add wayyy more pain
I am going to have a multiple injection in one time. I am really scary, cos I have a very low acceptable level of pain. Some patient said its hurtless, some said its hurt as hell. Where is the true? Do you really feel nothing after the local anesthesia?
I had these about 3 or so wks ago. My Dr kept pushing down on something and the pain was intense! He turned and pushed and each time I cringed in pain. There was no anesthesia or numbing spray. I was sore leaving and That night went I laid down the pain was unreal! Some of the worst I've ever had. Burning and shooting down to the top of my rear end. There was never any relief from the steroid and Idk how much he even gave me. Wondering about that. Idk what he was doing during this injections or why. Would love to know! I had another issue with this new Dr from a so called epidural. The shot was off to the right, not at all directly in the center of my spine, with just a regular bandaid. Anyway, I'd really appreciate any feedback from a Dr here as to what in the world he was doing during the facet injections. Ty!
Radio frequency ablation burned away my facet nerves for 5 yrs…. 5yrs I could run and jump… But… When they grew back……OUCH
Having a very bad day—facet joint syndrome in the lumbar region. Unacceptable popping and this is not good! I will need to have injections like this to end the crepitus and the resultant inflammation from it!
Had it done today, was quick and the only thing that hurt a bit was the freezing.
What's wrong with the MEN of today they don't know the meaning of what it is to be a MAN!
Women get scared that's their biological makeup BUT a MAN should be made of the "Right Stuff"
I've just had this done I went into this with no worries it's NOT painful just slight discomfort.
MEN train their bodies BUT fail to train their minds/character to be like "STEEL"👊
Got 6 today. Took a old zanax I was so nervous. Lol
Damn thing was over before it even kicked in.
Not bad though. Dr was very nice and was explaining EVERYTHING he was doing. Didn’t like it but I hope in a day 2 it will kick in and I feel good again
I got mine today 4 in total 😖
I’ve had a total of 7 epidural steroid injections in the past few years. I find it to be very helpful and a relatively painless procedure. I also think it depends on the doctor performing the procedure.
Had mine done yesterday 6 injections and I ain't gonna lie it bloody killed
It's steroid?
Just got mine done yesterday.
Sir what usvthe cost of it
I'm going to have this done, but to be totally honest, it makes me a little bit scared due to the fact I've got metal rods and fused vertebrae from scoliosis surgery.
Got mine love it
